Job Description:

JOB DESCRIPTION: Providing instruction to pupils within the limitation of the school nurse endorsement. Instruct staff on recognition and prevention of communicable diseases and other health concerns. Training, direction and supervision of the emergency administration of epinephrine for school staff designated by the certified school nurse to serve as delegates. Directing and supervising the health services activities of nurses and any school staff to which the certified school nurse has delegated a nursing task. Reviewing and summarizing available health and medical information regarding the student and transmitting the summary to the child study team for the meeting. Writing and updating, at least annually, the accommodation plan including the individualized health care plan required under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 for any student who requires it. Maintaining pupil health records and assisting the medical inspector with physical examinations. Recommend to the principal exclusion from school due to illness or exposure to disease. Reporting, receipt of reports and examinations in instances of suspected substance abuse. Follow all standing medical orders. Maintaining awareness of safe procedures for handling bodily fluids. Accessing employee health records when permitted by the employee. Serving as a liaison to the local board of health. Testing for tuberculosis infection. Completion of health forms required to be submitted to the State. Reviewing immunization records, assessing and recommending exclusion if pupils have not submitted acceptable evidence of immunization or exemption criteria. Providing appropriate response to DNR orders. Maintaining a valid, current Providers Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification from the American Heart Association or the equivalent from the American Red Cross. Administration of medication under a physician's written order. Administration of asthma medication through a nebulizer. Perform any other duties as requested by the principal and/or executive director. Qualification Certification as a School Nurse in the State of New Jersey. Three years experience working with special needs children. Excellent communication skills and team building skills. Leadership ability and personality necessary to guide professional staff.
