JOB TITLE: Director, Product Applications & Design Engineering DEPARTMENT: Engineering SUPERVISOR: TBD

SCOPE OF WORK: Director Product Applications Engineer oversees the planning, design of new product development, product launch, installation interfacing with sales, product management, manufacturing, vendors and marketing. This role is crucial to evaluating the potential and practicality of our consumer products in development and assessing the marketing applications for them. The Director role will guide the Product Development Engineers and develop applications strategies for new products and enhance existing products to achieve commercial success. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design product and consumer experiences that are intuitive and exceptionally well crafted; delivering operational and new product applications engineering strategies.
  • Collaborate with product managers, engineers, researchers, and content strategists to make strategic decisions to our products.
  • Refine tool and product designs from concept to working prototypes.
  • Lead and support internal and external technical requests and projects as it relates to our products and the consumer applications of them.
  • Create and adapt test methods/plans based on specific customer needs and applications within the consumer tool and storage space.
  • Prioritize and carry out testing based on incoming customer requests and other projects.
  • Organize and analyze applications testing results and. Interpret the data to make product recommendations, develop solutions, or propose subsequent experimental steps.
  • Prepare clear reports for use in customer correspondence and make presentations to our internal work groups as well as our customers.
  • Calculates cost analysis for integrating new tools into the manufacturing process.
  • Uses programming knowledge and experience to adapt tools to specific job applications.
  • Working with the Product Development Engineers prepares operating instructions for tools and products.
  • Evaluates tools/machinery to ensure it has the capability to complete desired functions.
  • Analyzes alternative techniques and methods and recommends changes to equipment/tools or procedures as needed.
  • Establish baseline procedures for prototyping new products and/or new application methods.
  • Participates in failure analysis/corrective action activities and recommends modifications. REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelors degree in Engineering or equivalent. Master's degree a plus.
  • 5+ years of consumer products applications engineering experience, hand tool and metal storage product experience strongly preferred .
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks (or similar CAD software), creating parts and assemblies from sketches or models
  • Exposure to product manufacturing; familiarity with plastics and injection mold tooling and part design.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive results within a matrix organization.
  • Strong written and oral communication and presentation skills.
  • Skilled in use of hand tools and operation of light machinery while working in a shop environment
  • Strong aptitude for mechanical analysis and adeptness at finding innovative solutions to difficult problems
  • Ability to communicate concepts to others using sketches, drawings, models, or descriptive presentations
  • Experience building prototypes and sketch models for purpose of design validation
  • Knowledge of relevant manufacturing processes
  • Dedication to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers
  • Passionate about the hand tool and tool storage home improvement market and related engineering, manufacturing, new product development and delivery for these consumers.
