The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) shall provide
anesthesia and related services, in accordance with hospital
regulatory, licensing and credentialing policies, and within the
AANA Guidelines for Nurse Anesthesia Practice and Code of Ethics at
Keller Army Community Hospital, West Point, NY.
Responsibilities
- Assist in anesthesia-related training and/or assigned tasks
when not involved in direct patient care.
- Comply with current standards of anesthesia practice and care
and provides anesthesia care that is within the scope of practice,
as determined by demonstrated competency, licensure, and clinical
privileges delineated by the MTF.
- Promptly and properly respond to cardiopulmonary arrests and
arrange appropriate backup from the MTF clinical staff.
- Must be able to demonstrate age-specific competency in the care
from a newborn infant to an older adult.
- Administer anesthesia by inhalation, endotracheal intubation,
regional (including ultrasound guided), intravenous, topical and
administration of all levels of sedation for pediatric and adult
patients; this includes pre-intra, and postoperative evaluation,
treatment and the support of life functions and vital organs under
stress of anesthetic, surgical and other procedures.
- Provide pain management and consultation.
- Provide consultation, collaborative management or referral to
other health care providers as indicated by the health status of
the patient.
- Responsible for:
- Diagnosis and Management
- Prescribe medication in accordance with MTF pharmacy and
therapeutics.
- Mechanical ventilator management (invasive and
noninvasive)
- Central Venous pressure monitoring
- Arterial catheter monitoring
- Initiation and management of patient-controlled analgesia,
intrathecal and epidural procedures
- Procedures
- Arterial catheter placement
- Endotracheal and nasotracheal intubation
- Central venous catheter insertions
- Ultrasound guided nerve blocks for upper and lower extremity
surgery and/or pain control
- Regional Anesthesia/Analgesia catheters
- Epidural/spinal placement for labor or surgical management
- Emergency cricothyrotomy
- Ultrasound guidance for vascular access and regional
anesthesia
- Anesthesia
- General anesthesia
- Neuraxial (spinal and epidural) anesthesia
- Monitored Anesthesia Care with and without sedation, under
topical and local infiltration.
- Peripheral nerve block anesthesia
- Procedure Advanced privileges
- Advanced nerve block techniques
- Other duties as assigned. Qualifications
- Possess current, active, valid, unrestricted license in at
least one U.S. State, District of Columbia, Commonwealth,
Territory, or jurisdiction.
- Possess a CRNA Certificate
- Minimum three (3) years of experience.
- Graduate of a school of professional nursing, approved by a
legally designated state accrediting agency and hold current
registration as a registered professional nurse.
- Graduate of an approved program of nurse anesthesia accredited
by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Education
Program and Schools or its predecessor.
- Possess Active, unrestricted license to practice as a
registered nurse.
- Successfully completed an accredited educational program for
advanced practice as a certified nurse practitioner, certified
nurse midwife, CRNA, or certified clinical nurse specialist.
- Possess current certification from the American Red Cross (ARC)
for Healthcare Providers in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Life
Support (ALS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or
equivalent from the American Heart Association (AHA) at the time of
employment. Certifications shall be maintained in a current status
at all times while performing services under this contract and this
expense will be borne by the contractor. Knowledge, Skills and
Abilities
- Possess evidence of continuing education which maintains skills
and knowledge in the nursing anesthesia specialty. Provide evidence
of training and experience with Peripheral Regional Nerve Block
anesthesia. This includes continuing education in sonography and
the practice of peripheral regional anesthesia. KACH Credentials
will be provided evidence of continuing education annually.

- While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is

occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision
abilities required by this job include close vision. Executive
